Cycle and reminder
- Journeyman, master, residential wireman, and related individual licenses: one-year term from issuance
- TDLR typically sends an email or postcard about 60 days before expiration — you are still responsible if it never arrives
- Keep contact info current in your TDLR account so reminders reach you
CE hours (most individual licenses)
- 4 hours of approved continuing education each license term
- Must cover NEC (or adopted code), Texas electrician law (Occ. Code Ch. 1305), admin rules (16 TAC Ch. 73), and electrical safety (NFPA 70E)
- Courses must be from a TDLR-registered provider; unapproved hours do not count
- Hours must fall inside the term of the license you are renewing
- Multiple license types: usually one 4-hour set per period if taken during that term
- Electrical contractors and residential appliance installers: CE is not required for those firm / RAI tracks
