Florida certified and registered electrical contractors renew on a biennial cycle. Electrical contractors need at least 11 classroom hours of CE per biennium; specialty and alarm contractors need at least 7. Local journeyman cards are a separate county track.

Cycle
- State certificates and registrations renew biennially under DBPR / ECLB rules
- Electrical contractor renewals commonly align to even-numbered years with an August 31 deadline — confirm your license record
- Local journeyman cards renew under county rules, not this state contractor path
CE hours (electrical contractor)
- At least 11 classroom hours (50 minutes each) per biennium
- Of the 11: at least 7 technical / code-related, 1 workers' compensation, 1 workplace safety, 1 business practices
- If you also do alarm system contracting: add 2 hours on false alarm prevention
- Specialty / alarm-system contractors: at least 7 classroom hours per biennium (board criteria apply)
- Courses must meet ECLB approval rules; dual holders under Part I may apply some WC / safety / business hours across parts when the statute allows
After the biennium
- Renewal needs the application, fee, and proof of CE
- Missing CE or late filing can stall work authority — check DBPR status before the deadline
