Who can schedule

  • After DBPR approves your examination application
  • Often schedulable with Pearson VUE within about 72 hours of approval
  • You may not need to wait for a paper authorization letter if you already have your candidate ID
  • Confirm the exact exam name for your specialty (Unlimited, Residential, and others)

Vendor and format

  • Pearson VUE CBT sites statewide and beyond
  • Schedule via Pearson VUE's Florida DBPR / electrical pages or call 888-204-6230
  • Business: 50 scored questions, 2½ hours
  • Technical / Safety: 100 scored questions, 5 hours (plus possible unscored pilots)
  • Failing Technical / Safety usually means reapplying to DBPR for a new authorization

What the exam covers

  • Business (required for certifications): contracting business, law, and project management
  • Unlimited Technical / Safety typically weights theory, plans / specs, wiring and protection, methods and materials, special occupancies, OSHA / safety, life safety / ADA, signs, and alarms / limited energy
  • Residential outlines shift toward residential loads, services, box / conduit fill, and related NEC applications
  • Use the Candidate Information Booklet outline for your specialty — do not study the wrong class

References and ID

  • Both parts are open-book
  • Bring the reference list printed in the current DBPR / Pearson CIB for your specialty
  • NEC edition and other allowed titles change — check the booklet dated for your sitting
  • Bring required photo ID and any authorization details Pearson lists at check-in
  • Learn the computer UI via the on-site tutorial before the clock matters

Prep that actually helps

  • Drill NEC navigation under timed conditions
  • Practice business / law separately from technical
  • For Unlimited: budget study time for alarms / limited energy and special occupancies
  • Match prep materials to the CIB reference list, not an old edition

After you pass

  • Passing both parts feeds the DBPR licensing process
  • Finish insurance, financial, and entity items for certified or registered status
  • If you fail a part: follow DBPR reapplication rules before rebooking Pearson
