Texas → North Carolina electrician license reciprocity
North Carolina's Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors maintains a formal reciprocity agreement with Texas. Eligible Texas electrical contractors can pursue an equivalent NC classification without the full written technical exam — still expect verification, a laws/rules exam, fees, and CE rules after listing.

What reciprocity usually means here
- NC publishes formal reciprocal agreements with several states, including Texas
- Same or equivalent classification without the full written technical exam when you meet the agreement
- You still file an NC reciprocity application packet and pay license fees
Typical packet
- Active Texas license verification from TDLR (same qualifying individual)
- NC reciprocity application for the target classification
- 25-question open-book NC laws, rules, and business practices exam (70% pass) under the technical-exam waiver path
- Any experience, insurance, or firm items the Board still requires for that class
After you are listed
- Annual July 1 – June 30 renewals and NC CE apply to listed qualifiers
- New qualifiers may need the Board's Laws and Rules course within 12 months
