Guides/Reciprocity
Texas → Washington electrician license reciprocity
Washington does not treat a Texas electrician card as automatic reciprocity. L&I expects out-of-state verification, hour totals that match the certificate you want, and usually an L&I approval letter before the PSI exam — apprenticeship rules can also apply for new (01) paths.

Not automatic
- WA's published reciprocal (01) path is primarily with Oregon apprenticeship-based credentials
- Texas licenses generally go through out-of-state experience / exam qualification, not a one-step swap
Typical L&I asks
- Notarized letter from TDLR confirming active license, type, exam-based issuance, and hours
- Hour mix that matches the target certificate (e.g. 8,000 with 4,000 commercial / industrial for general journey level)
- L&I approval letter with Exam Unique ID before you can book PSI
Apprenticeship note
- Since July 2023, most new in-state (01) paths require registered apprenticeship, with limited exceptions
- Out-of-state exam licenses and large hour totals have separate exception routes — read current L&I guidance
